Firewall - Bright Eyes (As heard on The People's Key)

In this latest offering from the Omahan band Bright Eyes, frontman Conor Oberst bravely pushes through the genre boundaries that the rest of his indiefolk - related (ala Fleet Foxes, Iron & Wine, Sufjan Stevens) compadres duly follow.
While not straying too far from his usual lamenting, country vibe, Conor's experiments with layered vocal tracks, monologues, and bigger band setups (a departure from the lo-fi guitars and quivering vocals he's known for) result in a darker sound, while still keeping his poetic angst-ridden lyrics intact.

Proof that Bright Eyes isn't content with just another travelin' song.

Seeing/doing some of the tricks that go down now would be unimaginable back then, but that is just natural progression, like any other professional field really. But as much as it’s progressed, a lot of characteristics have stayed the same......... "

Skateboarder Mag threw a poolside miniramp contest at The Standard Hotel in Hollywood. With the help of Matador Beef Jerky, Red Bull and Lakai, we had a hand picked group of quality shredders and "industry" folk out for free food and booze, and a goddamn miniramp jam contest at a swanky joint with $5,000 up for grabs.

Mike Carroll, Arto Saari, Andrew "The Bawse" Reynolds, Dylan Rieder, Sal Barbier, Lance Mountain, Kenny Anderson, Vincent Alvarez and Eric Koston (amongst others) were seen hitting the ramp and having some drinks too. Check out the action now.
